The amino acid L-tyrosine is involved in numerous bodily functions and is often supplemented as a "diet amino acid" and before training as a starting substance for the synthesis of all catecholamines (L-DOPA, dopamine, adrenaline, noradrenaline, etc.) as well as thyroid hormones.
Tyrosine is enriched with a vitamin B complex, which, among other things, contributes to reducing symptoms of fatigue.
The amino acid tyrosine can be an effective support for nutrient-restricted diets, as it maintains the synthesis of important hormones and neurotransmitters (thyroid hormones, catecholamines). For this reason, tyrosine is also an excellent supplement in combination with caffeine before training. B vitamins provide support here, helping, among other things, to reduce fatigue and maintain normal energy metabolism.
However, the overall effects of tyrosine supplementation depend greatly on your exercise, your eating habits and the use of additional supplements and sports nutrition (BCAAs, diet supplements).
To ensure that the strong but short functional boost of tyrosine does not fizzle out, you should adjust the amount of all basic substrates to your individual training or diet goals and, in particular, supply proteins as consistently as possible throughout the day.
Individual amino acids such as tyrosine, unlike amino acids from normal food, protein concentrates, or amino acid combinations, generally have the advantage of being able to develop their very specific functionality in isolation. This can be achieved more effectively if the individual amino acid is dominant, meaning it enters the bloodstream as isolated as possible. With wholesome protein sources, however, a large number of amino acids always enter the bloodstream simultaneously, with individual amino acids potentially competing for dominance. Therefore, individual amino acids should preferably be taken on an empty stomach.
Diets are often accompanied by unpleasant side effects such as tiredness, exhaustion and excessive eating, which can lead to the diet being abandoned or at least severely hinder it. These symptoms are often due to an insufficient intake of certain nutrients. A deficiency in the proteinogenic amino acid L-tyrosine can also become a limiting factor, as this amino acid fulfils important functions.
Tyrosine is the starting substrate for the formation of the thyroid hormones (T3) and (T4) as well as all catecholamines . The latter category includes the hormones and neurotransmitters in the central nervous system L-DOPA, dopamine as well as adrenaline and noradrenaline. During the biosynthesis of catecholamines from tyrosine, L-DOPA is initially produced by the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase , which in turn, with the help of aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase (AADC), produces dopamine , which is colloquially known as the “happiness hormone”. Dopamine can be hydroxylated by dopamine beta-hydroxylase to noradrenaline , which can be converted – optionally catalyzed – into adrenaline by phenylethanolamine N-methyltransferase .
Catecholamines and thyroid hormones are very important for the normal performance of the organism, which is why the availability of their starting substrate – L-tyrosine – is also important.
In addition to high-dose L-tyrosine (500 mg per capsule), Peak Tyrosine also contains a vitamin B complex with niacin, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12. This complex contributes, among other things, to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to the maintenance of a normal nervous system and energy metabolism. Vitamin B6 is also an important factor in the regulation of the hormonal system and—together with vitamin B12—in the normal function of the immune system, which rounds out the product's functional spectrum.
